EU to Serbia’s New Government: Implement the Ohrid Agreement, Obligations in Dialogue with Kosovo Remain Unchanged

The European Union has told Serbia’s incoming government, which will be formed following the elections, that it is expected to engage constructively in the dialogue aimed at normalizing relations with Kosovo, including implementing all agreements reached so far.

An EU spokesperson made the statement, stressing that the outcome of the latest elections in Serbia does not change the foundations or obligations arising from the EU-facilitated dialogue.

“The EU-facilitated dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders. All existing obligations remain in place, including the 2023 Agreement on the Path to Normalization and its implementation annex, the Ohrid Agreement,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also added that it is too early at this stage to speculate about possible changes in Serbia’s position in the dialogue and their implications for the process.

“We expect Serbia to continue engaging constructively, respect its existing obligations, and contribute to the normalization process. The EU remains ready to engage with the new leadership to maintain the momentum of this process,” the spokesperson added.
