TIRANA, April 9 – Over 100 athletes from across Albania joined the National Athletics and Table Tennis Tournament for people with intellectual disabilities. The event promotes inclusive sports and social equality.
Athletes competed with energy and respect. They showed how sports can overcome social and physical barriers.
The Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH) organized the tournament. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports and Tirana Municipality supported it.
Officials at the event included KOKSH President Fidel Ylli, Secretary General Gerti Shima, Special Olympics Albania Director Sara Bala, Athletics Federation President Izmir Smajlaj, and Table Tennis Federation President Krenar Dila. They praised the tournament for raising awareness and encouraging inclusive sports.
The tournament coincided with Autism Awareness Day on April 2, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6, and Autism Awareness Month. Organizers said it helps athletes prepare for international events, including the 2027 Special Olympics World Games, and celebrates their inspiring stories.
