State Minister Demo presents “Renewal 2.0” programme with 11 objectives for territorial intervention and regional development

TIRANA, May 28 – Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo presented today the “Renewal 2.0” programme, a package of 11 strategic objectives focused on territorial intervention and sustainable regional development.

Meanwhile, Demo said the programme aims to establish a new model of local development by combining cultural identity, innovation and modern technology with community needs.

He said the first objective focuses on strengthening local identity through the development of local museums. He also said the programme targets improved urban accessibility through parking infrastructure. In this context, he said authorities have identified 160,000 square metres across 12 municipalities, with capacity for up to 15,000 parking spaces.

In addition, Demo said the plan includes the regeneration of abandoned industrial sites. He said former factories will be transformed into community assets, including sports, recreational and economic spaces. He also said the programme raises public infrastructure standards, particularly in pre-university education buildings.

At the same time, the minister said the initiative supports innovation through local start-ups. He said it aims to expand youth participation in local economic development. He added that urban environment measures include full waste management coverage across municipalities.

Demo said urban transport will rely on electric buses. He said the first pilot municipality will launch in the last quarter of this year.

Finally, he said the programme includes new sports and recreational areas, stronger municipal logistics capacity for maintenance and flood prevention, and the development of smart cities. He confirmed that Gjirokastër and Fier have been designated as priority areas.
